2001

The big battle of 2001 was whether to use Java, ColdFusion, PHP or ASP. I do not think it mattered as much as the fact that people were using languages to build websites dynamically. A plain old HTML site was quickly becoming a thing of the past and that was a good development. Also, it was becoming very fashionable to have database content get pulled into your website. This was also good.

The end of 2000 into 2001 was a dark time. Falling on the heels of a much hyped .com boom, came the dot.bomb. The anticipated trillions of dollars were not being made as promised, leading to the closure of many design agencies and development companies. Let us have a moment of silence for those who fell.

And for those of us who survived, let's celebrate over a pint!
